Learning to Trust Again, and Again, and Again!

Hebrews 2:13 “And again, ‘I will put my trust in him.’ And again, ‘Behold, I and the children God has given me.’”

Putting our trust in God is not just a one time thing or even a daily act, true trust is put into constant practice, chosen several times a day, hour or depending on the day maybe every minute.  I find it fascinating that the writer of Hebrews mentions ‘I and the children God has given me’.  As a mom of two darling daughters, I can honestly say before God brought them into our family there wasn’t as much at stake when we stepped out on faith.

Now, please do not read into this that if you don’t have kids you don’t know what it’s REALLY like to trust God at all.  I know plenty of believing friends and family that are either single or married w/o kids that have taken HUGE steps of faith.

For me, trusting again and again really hit home when I received a call one day last summer that resulted in the delaying of the finalization of our adoption.

For nearly 5 months, I had to continually put my trust in God.  Sleepless nights of worry, fear and concern clashed with knowing that God had the best in mind for us.  Our children are, after all, HIS first and foremost.  Thankfully, God blessed us with a positive resolution just as the holidays were getting underway.

Once you begin to trust and trust again, and again, you realize that part of trusting is realizing that your “worst case scenario” may just be God’s plan.  And, in spite of this, he does truly have your best interest in mind despite your feelings that the most feared outcome could not possibly be the best.  So here is my prayer for you today:

God I put my trust in you.  I trust you to strengthen me when I need it and feel weak and powerless when I need it.  I trust you have my best interest in mind.  You love me selflessly, with a love I cannot even begin to grasp.  I trust you, again, today!
