Scribbles

As a mother of a one and two year old I have seen and gotten frustrated at my fair share of scribbles.  Fortunately we have avoided the crayon, permamanent marker, or any other writing utensil of you your choice on the walls. My journal on the other hand was their canvas of choice for a while.  One morning while I was enjoying the blessed quietness of my house I opened up my jornal and saw some scribbles.  Oddly enough, instead of a scowl appearing across my face and thinking ”NO, NOT IN MOMMY’S JOURNAL,” I smiled at the thought of the darling daughters that God has entrusted to me.

As God would have it, that morning I read Isaiah 8:18 which says,  ”Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.”  The scribbles in my journal, my children and my family are signs and symbols to me.  They show God’s hand and his ever-present dwelling with us. The children of Israel where not always such a wonderful crew to be around (much like ourselves), but yet they were reminders of God’s faithfulness to the nation of Israel, reminders that He was there and He had proven Himself faithful.

Dear ones, how many times have I gotten frustrated at what looks like a mess (scribbles) and chosen to forget God’s faithfulness and how what looks like a mess to me is a masterpiece of our maker working daily in our lives.

My challenge to you today is to look for those reminders in your day to day moments.  You may not see the blessing or the reminder of God in a current situation (even though He is with you in the midst of it), but look back at what He has done already, and take heart that He has already proven Himself faithful and will not leave you or forsake you.  He’ll carry you through those trials, even if it happens to seem trivial.  Trivial, like how to get a toddler to stop stuffing her mouth full of food when you tell her that as soon as she finishes what is on her plate she can go play.
