Extending the family through adoption

June 23rd, 2011

A friend of ours recently shared this link about her sister’s family.  Take a look and see how blending biological and adoptive children is possible – and even how adopting a group of siblings is possible.  And, not just possible, but wonderful!

Adoption Coaching?

November 2nd, 2010

Last week, Emily and I were blessed to share our story of adoption and other information to people that visited a 5 night Halloween alternative in Youngsville, NC.  During that event, we found ourselves asking what exactly does GodSpotters want to be when it grows up.  One phrase that kept coming up was “Adoption Coaching.”  Why this phrase?  Read on!

GodSpotters: On Location!

October 21st, 2010

Next week, GodSpotters will be on location for the cause of adoption!

Wednesday, Oct. 27-Oct. 31, AnchorSoul @ Faith Baptist Church, Youngsville, NC.
Faith Baptist Church holds an annual walk-through drama of over 100 cast members the week before Halloween.  This year, it is “The War of Realms” and is tagged, “A Haunted House Alternative Where Reality Is More Riveting Than Fantasy… ”  Why is GodSpotters part of the free event?
One of the goals in this year’s drama is to raise awareness of opportunities for adoption and fostering.  We’ll be promoting domestic adoption, while other teams will present information on international adoption and fostering.  JOIN US!  Visit http://www.faithnc.org and click the AnchorSoul banner, or select AnchorSoul from the Engage menu.

Thursday, Oct. 28, Amazing Grace Adoptions Fundraising Banquet, Raleigh, NC.
We’ll be taking a break from AnchorSoul for one night to join with our friends at Amazing Grace Adoptions to not only raise awareness for adoption, but for the need for people to support local adoption agencies.  AGA is located in Raleigh, NC, but promotes adoption all over the world.  They serve both domestic and international adoption needs, and have a full staff of loving individuals.  The event starts at 6:30 and will be held at the Courtyard Raleigh-Crabtree Valley.

For more information on either of these events, just leave a comment – and we’ll get in touch!  You can also email us through our Contact Us page.

Is Adoption Expensive?

September 7th, 2010

Adoption always raises questions in people’s minds.  Sometimes it’s curiosity about how the process works.  Sometimes it’s about the relationship between biological and non-biological parenthood.  For the rest of the summer, I’m going to spend time answering some of these questions.  Some are personal, so, we’ll do our best to present the answers in ways that help others understand that everyone should consider adoption.

This week’s question is another important one – “Is Adoption Expensive?”  It would be great to live in a world where money wasn’t an issue, but as we all know, it is important.  It’s so important that scripture discusses money more than 800 times – which makes it one of the single most talked about topics in scripture.

So, it’s no wonder that finances enter into nearly every story of adoption.  Here’s some basic information about what the expect. » Read more: Is Adoption Expensive?

Another Encouraging Adoption Story!

August 30th, 2010

OK. So I apologize for the lack of a “real” post; my eldest daughter decided I did not need more than 3-4 hours sleep last night. But, I came across this at my favorite place of encouragement aside from God’s word (http://lysaterkeurst.com). Lysa Terkeurst is co-founder of Proverbs 31 Ministries (www.proverbs31.org) - an amazing organization, and I highly encourage you to support them any way you can.  You can purchase some incredible materials/books through their website, and it all goes to support the ministry.  Check out the links, say a little prayer for my sanity today, and if you are in the Raleigh area and notice a shortage of coffee, it’s because I’m drinking it all! LOL!

New Movie: Like Dandelion Dust

August 27th, 2010

Coming in September, “Like Dandelion Dust” is a deeply moving story of adoption, according to many reviewers.  The basic plot is that an adoptive family is confronted with the biological parents of their little boy when the biological father is released from jail.  It isn’t an easy, relaxing movie according to what we’ve seen of it.  But, it may be what we all need to be reminded that adoption is not for the faint of heart – as is nearly all parenting!

Learn more about the move by visiting www.likedandeliondust.com or search for it on Google.  Below is the YouTube trailer.

Must-Read Adoption Article in Christianity Today

July 21st, 2010

Author of Adopted for Life (highly recommend) Dr. Moore shares his story of adopting from overseas and how it is so much bigger than the adoptive parents and the child.  Adoption draws us closer to God, reveals His nature and deepens our walk with Him.  Enjoy this thought-provoking article.

The Fellowship of Adoption

May 31st, 2010

So, over the last years as we’ve built our family through adoption, we’ve noticed several of our friends have decided to do the same thing.  Whether it’s us inspiring each other, or just the fact that we love to hang out with other adoptive families, there’s definitely a fellowship that develops among adoptive families.  We get to share not only parenting stories, but the real life stories of what it means on a daily basis to be adoptive families (and for some of us, multiracial families).

One friend posted this fun list on her facebook page that I think is great for adoptive families to read.  It’s just one of the reminders of how similar our stories are – whether we adopt from other countries like Russia and Ethiopia, or here in the U.S.

The Adoption Need

May 9th, 2010

Over the last number of months, my wife and I have been reminded of the need for adoption.  Recently at a fundraiser for a local crisis pregnancy center, abortion statistics were offered.  In certain minority communities, over 3/4 of all pregnancies are ending in abortion.  This is staggering when you think about it.  Based on this statistic, it’s easy to see the crisis.

No matter how you feel about the options available to women in difficult situations, the thought that it would be so extensively used is hard to fathom.  What drives a woman or a couple to make such a decision?  How hard it must be to feel such loss of hope, such misery, such deep anguish.  But, there is hope – and telling others in any way possible about adoption shares much of that hope.
