I found a really neat article posted online by a catholic blogger about reasons to consider adoption. She listed forty, but for simplicity sake, I’ve reduced it to the ones I found most interesting or fun.
REASONS TO CONSIDER ADOPTION:
Kids are natural virtue builders. They are the perfect antidote to self-absorption and an inordinate sense of self, and bring out (sometimes by force) untapped stores of patience and gentleness. Not to mention humility.
They add laughter and affection. Whether it’s the sight of Sarah clad in glittering loungewear and sunglasses, or feeling one of them snuggle close at Mass, children are natural day-brighteners.

Today, I heard a lady who said that her friend’s story of adopting was her “Jesus Story.” Now, many who read this post will understand that – but others won’t. People who choose to make Jesus Christ the center of their lives often are watching for how that makes a difference – how they can see God’s hand at work in their lives. This lady apparently felt like the story of adoption she experienced was just such a story.
Over the last number of months, my wife and I have been reminded of the need for adoption. Recently at a fundraiser for a local crisis pregnancy center, abortion statistics were offered. In certain minority communities, over 3/4 of all pregnancies are ending in abortion. This is staggering when you think about it. Based on this statistic, it’s easy to see the crisis.
