God’s Provision!

August 3rd, 2010

So here is a silly but wonderful story about God’s provision.  Our family enjoys grocery shopping together, and with the help of all the fun carts for kids these days and our girls being a little older they even seem to have a good time (mostly).  After Michael got off work a few weeks ago we piled everyone in the car, finalized our list and headed out on our family outing!  We successfully completed our mission without much ado from our darling daughters and happily made our way to the checkout counter (WOOOHOOO!)

We had noticed the dark clouds as we came in to the store but didn’t think much of it.  But, on our way to check-out God showed off His power over nature and let loose a HUGE thunderstorm.  As our cashier was scanning our items we were discussing the pros and cons of hanging out in the store a little longer, just to see if the storm would pass.

Author of Adopted for Life (highly recommend) Dr. Moore shares his story of adopting from overseas and how it is so much bigger than the adoptive parents and the child.  Adoption draws us closer to God, reveals His nature and deepens our walk with Him.  Enjoy this thought-provoking article.

“They are so lucky…”

July 3rd, 2010

There’s a long list of phrases that an adoptive parent hears on a regular basis that can drive you batty.  You hear questions like “Did you meet her real parents?” (We are her real parents, so of course!) or “Are they sisters?” (Well, they have the same mommy and daddy, me and Emily, so, yes, they are sisters).  But, then, there’s the one comment that we’ve heard that may not make us angry, but does make us feel sorry for the person who asked.  ”They are so lucky to have parents like you” or “They are so lucky to have a chance.”  Now, these statements may seem innocent, but they put a bit of unnecessary grandeur on us as the parents.  My wife and I always reply that the truth is, we are the lucky ones – blessed in fact. » Read more: “They are so lucky…”

Learning to Trust Again, and Again, and Again!

April 29th, 2010

Hebrews 2:13 “And again, ‘I will put my trust in him.’ And again, ‘Behold, I and the children God has given me.’”

Putting our trust in God is not just a one time thing or even a daily act, true trust is put into constant practice, chosen several times a day, hour or depending on the day maybe every minute.  I find it fascinating that the writer of Hebrews mentions ‘I and the children God has given me’.  As a mom of two darling daughters, I can honestly say before God brought them into our family there wasn’t as much at stake when we stepped out on faith.
